Yemen – Sand ends the lives of Al-Wara village residents
In Al-Wara village, in Lahj governorate, southern Yemen, the quicksands have buried dozens of houses and displaced their residents, with the windy season; dunes continue to crawl over villages in Lahij governorate, burying homes on a daily. About five hundred people live in the desert village of Al-Wara’a, and the trees were the impregnable fortress of their homes before they were smashed, which made the sand crawl towards their homes. The residents of the village worked to remove the roofs and windows of the houses, to take advantage of them in their journey to search for a new village, and this comes at a time when the local authorities and emergency forces are absent to contribute to the removal of dunes and the protection of desert villages.
