Iraq – Pitchfork making, an inherited profession facing extinction

Making wooden pitchfork is an ancient handicraft industry, which is used for scattering wheat and barley, in Wasit Governorate, Iraq; it encounters the risk of extinction in the face of the development of modern agricultural methods. Muhammad Salman, the owner of one of the shops that he inherited from his ancestors 200 years ago, states that the profession, which is unique in its diversity and distinction, is viewed as an ancient heritage, and the demand for it is weak by farmers in current time with the modernity of tools in our time.
