Iraq – Half of the female journalists have faced harassment and abuse in the Kurdistan region

About 50% of female journalists working in the Iraqi Kurdistan region have been exposed to sexual harassment and abuses at work, the Journalists Syndicate in the region stated that several humanitarian organizations dealing with the rights of journalists expressed their frustration with the lack of registration of complaints against harassment. According to the union’s secretary, Karawan Anwar, there are various violations that female journalists face like harassment, suspension from work, income deduction, and increased working hours, adding that more than 500 journalists in the syndicate have been subjected to abuses and have lost their jobs.
