Iraq – Iraqis favor local dates to Iranian one

With the arrival of Ramadan, and Muslims’ desire to buy dates for Iftar, Iraqis favor the dates that are grown in the country, which Iraq has been famous for hundreds of years as it was called “the country of palm trees” and “the country of a million palm trees”, owing to a large number of palm trees before it surpassed the population in the 1980s. Iraq used to be one of the most prominent countries in date cultivation in the world; meanwhile, the Kurdish people prefer Iraqi dates to other dates, especially Iranian ones, on the Ramadan table for their flavor, ease of digestion, and nutrition values.
