Iraq – The Iranian Foreign Minister arrives in Baghdad, visits the site of Soleimani’s assassination, and meets with his Iraqi counterpart
Iran’s Foreign Minister, Muhammad Javad Zarif, has arrived in Baghdad, as part of a two-day visit to the country, during which he will meet senior Iraqi officials. His tour includes a visit to Najaf city and the Kurdistan region and he said that Tehran appreciates the important role of Iraq in the region. The foreign minister has visited the site of the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, and Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, the deputy head of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces. Soleimani, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, and several Iranian and Iraqi officials were killed in a US raid targeting their convoy on the Baghdad airport road on January 3, 2020.
