Iraq- Pope Francis arrives in Baghdad and church bells ring out to welcome him

Today, Friday, Pope Francis has arrived in Baghdad for a four-day historic visit to Iraq, and which is the first visit of the Vatican to Iraq. As the Pope got off his plane, the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, was among his first receivers. Meanwhile, the Syriac Catholic Church stated that it rang church bells for a quarter of an hour upon the Pope’s arrival in Iraq, indicating the happiness of his visit. The Pope will visit four cities; Mosul; which was the stronghold of ISIS and has war-damaged churches and buildings, as well as Ur city, the birthplace of the Prophet Ibrahim, and he will meet Ali al-Sistani, the supreme authority of the Iraqi’s Shia.
