Iraq: Upcoming Elections will Determine the Future of Powerful Parties and its Affiliated Militias

There is a widespread assumption among Iraqi elites that the upcoming elections are of pivotal importance in remapping out the political ruling class. Member of the Iraqi Communist Party, Muhammad al-Salami illustrated that the coming elections will witness a dismantle in powerful political blocs that have been ruling since 2003, adding that in case those parties failed in furthering their agendas, they will lose their lawful right to resist any governmental plan or any governmental law to disarm these political parties’ affiliated militias
