Iraq – A Yazidi painter embodies ISIS torture methods against abductees in her work.

After leaving her hobby in painting for more than three years she spent in the detention camps of ISIS, the Yazidi girl “Suhaila Dakhil” returned to practice her hobby again to embody her suffering with her kidnapped friends in those detention centers and to document the torture and abuse methods, in addition to paintings that express life and hope for a better future. Despite all what happened, she still dreams of becoming a famous painter, as asks for support and assistance in opening an exhibition of her own in Erbil, Dohuk or outside Iraq, in order to introduce the world to the crimes committed by the organization against Yazidis through paintings. It is noteworthy that ISIS kidnapped Suhaila with thousands of other Yazidis girls and women during the organization’s control on Yazidis areas in Sinjar, where they were subjected to various kinds of torture by the militants. Five members out of 19 of Sohaila’s family were freed so far after ISIS kidnapped in summer 2014.
