Galata Tower is the compass for tourists coming to Turkey, to embrace the charm of Istanbul.

The tower is a historic landmark, it is one of the oldest and most beautiful towers in the historical city, its construction dates back to the Middle Ages.

Galata Tower attracts residents and foreigners to take unique souvenir photos, as its high altitude provides a panoramic view of Istanbul, from a height of about 67 meters, showing tourists a full scenery of the charming beauty of the city.

The famous Galata Tower is located in the Galata neighborhood, hence its name. It has become one of the most important tourist symbols of Istanbul.

Anyone who climbs to the top of the tower can see a clear panoramic view of the Istanbul Bridge connecting the Asian and European sections, as well as the Gulf Bridge, in the Taksim district, on the European side of Istanbul.

There is no accurate information about the year of the construction of the famous Galata Tower with its beautiful geometric shape, but some historical Turkish sources say that it was built in 507 AD. The tower was restored during the era of the Ottoman Empire in 1509, after the earthquake that struck Istanbul at the time, by Ottoman architect “Khair al-Din”, student of the famous architect “Sinan”.

An interesting story about the Galata Tower that is still told among Turks, is that the tower is the place where Hazfran Ahmed Shalabi, who lived during the seventeenth century, chose to try his first attempt to fly through artificial wings that he installed himself.
