Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the two-day Arab Media Forum kicked off today in Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai.

Participants in the forum, the largest media event of its kind in the region,  include more than 3,000 government officials, leaders of Emirati, Arab and international media organizations, chief editors of newspapers, renowned writers, thinkers, and those involved in the media sector across the Arab world.

The forum, which celebrates its 20th anniversary in this edition, includes a number of main sessions discussion sessions, twenty-minute sessions, and workshops, through will present a large number of topics related to media’s ability to present a beneficial message that helps the Arab world face challenges that surround it, and enhances its future opportunities.

The forum presents the most important topics of concern in the media sector, whether print, visual, audio or digital media, within a comprehensive framework aimed at setting clear frameworks of what is required to develop the sector, taking into account multifaceted variables and dimensions of influence that surround media, regionally and globally.

– Soundbite (Diaa Rashwan – President of the Arab Media Award):

“The Arab Media Forum has been held for 20 years, and the Arab Media Award (previously Arab Journalism Award) for 21 years. The Arab Journalism Award changed name to Arab Media Award last year as a result of the development in the media sector. Print journalism is no longer the only form prevalent, and therefore His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Rashid bin Maktoum ordered the change to the form of the award, to which the board of directors responded and conducted studies. We now have three awards, television media, digital media and print media.”

– Soundbite (Maitha Buhumaid – Director of Dubai Press Club):

“The media sector celebrates great achievements reached on different platforms. The Arab Media Award evolved from the Arab Journalism Award to include larger categories, out of faith in the pivotal role media plays, as means of bringing together nations, or breaking up international relations.”
