Storyline:

Under the theme “Silent Suffering”, artists Alaa Rubel in Yemen paints different artworks on the surface of destroyed buildings in Aden southern Yemen. Murals represents families who left the area and destroyed homes. Unlike other plastic artists who display their works in exhibitions, Rubel chose walls of destroyed houses to paint his drawings. He carefully chooses a humanitarian issue that documents and reflects the suffering of a family while doing his work. The artist says it is important to document these tragedies so people can realize the damage and impact that war caused.

Shot list:

Soundbite (Alaa Rubel – plastic artist):

“I painted different wall murals under the theme “Silent Suffering” to represent victims who died here and families who lost their members and homes. At the same time, I wanted for this place to be an exhibition of murals, convey several messages, that people can see every day. Murals also beautify destroyed areas and turn them into an exhibition.”

– Soundbite (Alaa Rubel – plastic artist):

“The campaign will continue to paint different drawings in different areas. Drawings of each area reflect the issues took place there in that region. I hope that the paintings convey purposeful messages and that all artists start painting in places that suffer humanitarian issues to communicate their suffering to the world.”
