Kurds in the Iraqi city of Sulaymaniyah celebrated the national Kurdish day of Newroz by the lighting of bonfires and torches, marking the beginning of spring. A large number of city residents and tourists who participated in the event extended their warm wishes to the Kurdish people. The celebration included Kurdish dances, songs, and folkloric costumes in Jabal Kuwayzah and Mama Yara Park. Nowruz, which falls on the 21st of March of each year, is a national holiday for the Kurds, in which people hold parties celebrating the beginning of the spring.
