Storyline
The parliament decided to open the candidacy for the President for second on the ninth of this month and three days.
Observers said that this political maneuver is because of the rivalries within the Kurdish and Shiite houses after the Federal Supreme Court issued a temporary suspension of the candidacy of Hoshyar Zebari from the Democratic Party. They also speculated that Zebari would return to the scene again and win the presidential office after a ruling in his favor.
Among the media, these political tensions that delayed the decision of the presidency will negatively affect the formation of the government and the security and economic conditions.

- (SOUNDBITE) Dr. Basem Al-Jumaily – Professor of Political Science:
“The Federal Court should be given space to re-promote Hoshyar because Mr. Hoshyar is backed by Mr. Massoud, and Mr. Massoud has the upper hand in this regard. There are disputes on the position of the Presidency but in this session, the Presidency of the Republic will go to the Democratic Party, and the winner will be Mr. Hoshyar Zebari, because he is backed internationally, locally and in Kurdistan and has certain acceptability despite what is said that there is corruption. If we take into account the term corruption, corruption is by everyone.”
- (SOUNDBITE) Ammar Al-Azzawi – Media Person):
“Political disputes are behind the delay in the inauguration of the President as well as the disputes between the two Kurdish parties, and between the Shiite blocs and the Shiite parties. The existing conflicts will certainly affect the delay of choosing a president.”
- (SOUNDBITE) Salem Ragab – Media Person:
“This harms the course of the country. The work data, economic issues, management of the country, budget, and other benefits are frozen so far, and it is not possible to decide on them now. This reflects negatively on the situation and people don’t accept it. We wished those concerned to settle the matter quickly.”
