Mongolia – Air pollution, one of the serious issues in Ulaanbaatar
Smoke and air pollution have been one of the most pressing issues in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia in the last two or three years, despite the use of improved briquettes which has reduced emissions slightly compared to the years when raw coal used to be used, however, white smoke is emitting more toxic than before. The head of anti-air pollution agency, B. Purevsuren, stated that the use of briquettes began in 2019, since then, the number of air pollution sources in Ulaanbaatar, such as cars and households, has been steadily increasing. Adding that the number of vehicles in November of this year increased by 16% compared to the same period in 2019, 70% of them have diesel and gasoline engines, 80% are more than a decade old.
