As the Iraqi armed forces mark their 101st anniversary on Thursday, which coincides also with US military withdrawal from Iraq, the Mutanabbi Street held a spectacular artistic carnival. The event came on the heels of the formation of a new parliament in Iraq, which is expected to hold its first session very soon. launched by Baghdad Mayoralty, the carnival hosted cultural activities and fireworks show near Al-Shuhada Bridge. Furthermore, the carnival’s location was notably chosen given its rich historical value, after it underwent restoration work. In the old days, the place used to house governmental buildings and military barracks, particularly in the Qishleh clock area, which dates back to the Ottoman Empire, decades before the Iraqi army was ever formed.
