Arrival of President of the Italian Senate to Kurdistan to coordinate support in the war against terrorism

Nechirvan Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Regional Government welcomed the President of the Italian Senate to strengthen bilateral relations between the two sides and the support of Italy to Kurdistan region in the war against terrorism and to provide humanitarian assistance to Iraqi displaced in Kurdistan region.

Nechirvan Barzani, president of the Kurdistan Regional Government welcomed the President of the Italian Senate “Pietro Grasso” in Erbil International airport on Tuesday.

Grasso is visiting the Kurdistan region to discuss with senior officials the strengthening of bilateral relations between the two sides and support the Italy to Kurdistan region in the war against terrorism and to provide humanitarian assistance to Iraqi displaced in Kurdistan region. Another aims of the Italian visit to the region is for the opening of the Italian consulate in Erbil today.

Italy is providing humanitarian aid to displaced Iraqis living in the camps of the Kurdistan region and Italy is considered as one of international coalition countries that contribute to the training of the Peshmerga forces through the presence of trainers within the international coalition in the training camps of the Peshmerga forces.

The Italian official arrived Tuesday evening to Erbil from Baghdad where he met President Fuad Masum and the Iraqi Parliament Director Salim al-Jubouri, where he discussed with them bilateral relations and joint efforts in the fight against ISIS.
