Umm Muhammad along with other women in Lahj governorate, southern Yemen, makes trays, mats, and a variety of other stuff using palm fronds, straws, and reeds to support their family. They exert efforts in working continuously in the production of traditional handicrafts and selling them at low prices in Lahj. Umm Muhammad trains women the handicrafts to preserve the traditional professions that represent the governorate as well as to support their families amid grim Yemen’s conditions. People tend to purchase traditional local products, because of their high quality and reasonable prices.
