Forty Iraqi Kurdish immigrants have arrived at Sulaymaniyah International Airport following their detention by the Libyan authorities in Benghazi for two months. It is reported that the Libyan forces kept around 57 Iraqi immigrants, the majority of them is from Kurdistan, who attempted, for more than two months, to seek refuge in Italy by smuggling; however, the bad weather pushed them to return to Libya, where they were detained in grim conditions of food scarcity and cold place. Unofficial reports from local organizations stated that over a million young Kurdish individuals have immigrated since 2015 owing to the absence of jobs and the economic and political crises.
