Bahrain: Manama Dialogue Forum Discusses the Regional Security in its Second Day
The Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), in cooperation with the Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs, launched the 3-day Manama Dialogue forum, which started yesterday. The event brings together more than 300 officials, foreign and defense ministers, leaders of security services, thinkers, and experts representing more than 50 countries. The forum, which came in light of new regional and international challenges, was interspersed with speeches on the Iranian nuclear file and the security status in the Indo-Pacific region. During which, US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin reiterated US commitment to defend the Middle East and waterways as Iranian threat looms ahead. The secretary indicated that US support in the region focus on four axes; the pandemic, the climate change crisis, terrorism, Iran’s sponsorship of terrorism. During a dialogue session, attended by the minister of Jordan; Ayman Safadi, and Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fouad Hussein, under the name of “diplomacy and deterrence” Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdullatif al Zayani confirmed his country’s keenness to employ diplomacy in an effort to bring prosperity. Meanwhile, Al Safadi illustrated that the region needs more than deterrence, rather, it is in dire need of radical solutions following devastating conflicts. Furthermore, Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fouad Hussein underscored the necessity of having a safe environment, referring to Iraq’s onerous efforts in combating terrorism. The forum will also address a number of pressing security issues related to the Gulf and Asia, along which a session under the theme ” multilateralism and regional security”
