Iraq: Iran and Iraqi Political Parties Affiliated to Iran Are Partially Dominating the Iraqi Markets

Amid the Iraqi Central Bank’s decision to devalue the national currency against the US dollar and soaring prices, people are enduring the month of Ramadan. Retailers blame not only wholesalers but also pro-Iran parties who exploit the shopping spree in Ramadan and raise prices. Moreover, Iran capitalizes on the Iraqi government’s legislation that concerns importing and exporting by enforcing the concerned authorities to ask for no more than the Certificate of Origin for imported goods; without taking samples to subject them to standardization and quality control. By doing so, Iraqi markets became flooded with Iranian goods not only in Baghdad but also in northern regions
