Iraq: Khawla Al-Araji Works in Repairing Appliances To Provide for her Family

Despite all odds, Khawla Al-Araji runs a workshop for repairing and fixing appliances and electronic devices in Yathrib in southern Salah ad-Din Governorate. Al-Araji was first motivated to work in such a job after her husband was wounded in a blast. She learned to repair appliances and electronic devices, claiming that innovation isn’t confined to men as she also refused the community’s restrictions that dedicate women’s roles. Moreover, Al-Araji illustrated that her move to work in such a field encourages women into assuming jobs that were monopolized by men as it also boosts women’s insistence on addressing life obstacles
