Syria – A storyteller narrates stories to displaced children and orphans after the war and destruction
Hearing the storyteller of Ramadan reminds us of that dramatic scene from old Syrian soap operas in which an elderly storyteller comes to the old neighborhood’s café every day after Tarawih prayers, to present interesting stories and biographies of the heroes and ancestors, however in Al-Ansari camp, northern Syria, the situation is different, as due to the displacement and devastation, Hussein Birtawi decided to wear the storyteller suit, and tell stories to an audience of displaced children and orphans, every evening after Iftar aiming to bring joy and happiness into their hearts. “Bertawi” points out that he tries to let their imagination travel in this Ramadan atmosphere through stories to overcome their complex psychological crises caused by the war.
