Iraq – Iranian and Kurdish militias hinder the enforcement of Sinjar Agreement
Over six months of “ISIS” invasion of the Sinjar city and execution of one of the most brutal massacres in Iraq in which thousands of Yazidis were detained and killed, amid local demands to re-normalize the situation in the city, yet the judiciary is still under the dominance of the Kurdish Workers party militia and Iranian militias without enforcing the agreement between the central government in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government. The political activist, Lazma Yusuf, express that under than a third of the population have returned to the city in a fluctuating manner, because they don’t find stability amid the competition among several militias, besides the poor role of the Iraqi army in extending its influence. Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Arab tribes in the disputed areas, Sheikh Muzahim al-Hawit, states that many armed factions are present in the city who belong to various loyalties and subordination, the most prominent of which are; The Iranian Revolutionary Guard militia, headed by Iranian General, Ahmed Majdi, the Yazidi Protection Units militia headed by Haydar Shushu, close to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, the Sinjar Peshmerga militia headed by Qasim Shushu, close to the Kurdistan Democratic Party headed by Masoud Barzani and the most prominent force in the city, the “Sinjar Protection Units”, which is the Iraqi army of the Turkish “Kurdistan Workers” Party, and it owns a powerful arsenal of arms, and typically with Turkish Kurdish fighters of “Kurdish workers” party”.
