Iraq – Suicide is a new catastrophe in the Iraqi society

Suicide cases have dramatically increased in Iraq during this year. The authorities say that the reasons vary between personal, and economic. Researchers pointed out that the primary reasons could be psychological, social, economic, and lack of job opportunities, shelter, problems in human rights, and bad services provided to citizens. They also pointed out the increase in domestic violence causing burns to children and women. Official records show 293 suicide attempt cases in Iraq from Jan 2020, 165 of them are males and 128 females. Baghdad came in the first place recording 68 attempt cases, then comes Al-Basra with 39 cases and Thi-Qaar with 30 cases.
