Baghdad – Iraq 01/11/2020
The authorities have reopened Tahrir Square and the Republic Bridge to traffic after a closure of more than a year due to protests for political reforms in October 2019. Tahrir Square traffic is going on normally, while the security forces, in cooperation with the Baghdad Municipality, removed the concrete barriers which were blocking the Jumhuriya Bridge. The Jumhuriya Bridge connects Tahrir Square directly to the Green Zone, where the headquarter of the government, parliament, and the US embassy. It embodies the operations in which about 600 protesters were killed and 30,000 people were injured all over Iraq.
