Iraq – Controversy over the government’s fate after the imposition of US sanctions on the leaders of the Popular Mobilization supported by Iran

Controversy in the political circles prevails over the fate of the Iraqi government after the US administration imposition of sanctions on a number of leaders of the Iranian-backed Popular Mobilization Committee. The government announced the inclusion of the Popular Mobilization Forces in the Iraqi armed forces before the imposition of sanctions. Some political analysts believe that the commander-in-chief should create a new consensus with the Iraqi government in order not to give reasons and excuses to the United States to increase the area covered by US sanctions, while others found that holding accountability to convicted if found guilty avoids the embarrassment with the US administration.
