Sharjah – UAE 24/04/2019
A ceremony was held under the title “One Thousand and One Nights: The Last Chapter,” in the emirate of Sharjah, UAE, in celebration of being named the World Book Capital of 2019. The title was launched by the UNESCO, and the ceremony was attended by hundreds of artists from around the world, making Sharjah the first Gulf city to earn this title, the third Arab city, after Beirut and Alexandria, and the 19th city in the world. Sharjah celebrated this title by holding a ceremony and a historical art show at Al-Majaz Theater to deliver a message to the whole world through a performance that narrates the history of creative Arab and human literature. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of the ceremony of “Sharjah, World Book Capital, stated that this title is a great addition to the Emirate of Sharjah, however, it does not represent their aspirations, adding that their real aspirations include creating an intellectual society by promoting the culture of reading among its members, which is more important for the Emirate of Sharjah than getting titles.
