Philippines – A strike to demand better conditions for workers and the elimination of martial laws

NAMASUFA, recognized by the Philippine Supreme Court as the only representative of the workers and farmers of Sumifru Fruit Company in the city of Quezon, east of the Filipino capital of Manila, demanded an increase in the wages of the company’s employees, as well as inhibiting the companies practice of hiring workers and ending their contracts before they reach the retirement age, which deprives them of social security income and other benefits, strikers demanded the cessation of all forms of harassment against their union practiced by the company, and the Filipino government, as well as the violent behavior of policemen against them, often obstructing them at checkpoints, intimidating both the leaders and members of the union, in addition to the elimination of martial law in their work area in Mindanao
