Chaldean and Assyrian Syriacs are celebrating the Mother Language Day by taking part at the various events and ceremonies that were set up at Kurdistan’s Syriac cultural centers and schools, during which they expressed their adherence to their mother language by encouraging the new generation to speak the language, especially as they get to learn their mother language at Kurdistan’s schools. They also stressed that their language makes up a huge part of their identities, and they called for the community to adhere to it. In spite of the circumstances and displacement journeys that Christians have been through during the past years following ISIS’ control over their areas in the Nineveh Plains, Mosul, they never abandoned their Aramaic language, which is acclaimed as one of the oldest eastern languages.
