Yemen – Requests to intervene and prevent Houthis from stealing artifacts in ancient city of Zabid

The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization condemned Houthis for steeling manuscripts, historical and scientific books and rare valuables from the Zabid city library in southern Hudaydah in western Yemen. The stolen manuscripts and books represent a valuable heritage that documents the history of Zabid, which was the capital of Yemen between the 13th and 15th centuries. The Yemeni historian, Mohammad Bin Hawi Bawzeer requested from the international community and organizations to intervene and prevent Houthis from steeling the valuables of ancient city of Zabid, which is considered part of the cultural heritage to all humankind. He also requested from the two parties at conflict in Yemen to refrain from using historic landmarks as their battlefields.
