Iraq – Report on violations against minorities in Iraq
City Center – Erbil – Kurdistan Region – Iraq 30/12/2018
An annual report titled “Minorities and Continuous Discrimination”, which was issued by the Iraqi Minorities Coalition, indicated a continuous state of legislative, practical, political, cultural and social discrimination practiced against religious, ethnic and national minorities in Iraq, pointing out that some religions are not legally recognized, particularly in civil status departments, where the followers of these religions are not being recognized or identified. Educational curricula have been reported to contain discriminating children stories that teach children to be aggressive. The report also mentioned that large Iraqi parties are taking advantage of minorities to achieve their interests. The report also included recommendations for the government authorities to issue laws that prevent discrimination, in addition to enhancing their endeavors in supporting minorities, improving their situation, and giving them access to their rights. This came during a press conference held by the Minorities Coalition Network in Erbil.
