Yemen – Human Rights Minister signs joint plan with UN representative to end child recruitment
Aden-Yemen 19/12/2018
The Human Rights Minister, Mohammed Askar, signed an updated plan in Aden with the UNICEF Representative in Yemen, Meritxell Relano, to implement the UN joint plan to end children recruitment. The agreement between the Yemeni Government and the UNICEF obligates them to initiate campaigns and programs for child protection without discriminating between the Yemeni governorates. Askar pointed out upon signing the agreement that this same agreement had been signed in Sana’a in 2014 but the projects were suspended because of the war launched by the Houthis. He added that signing this plan is only a formality to resuscitate the agreement against child recruitment, which will oblige all parties to respect its terms. For her part, Relano confirmed that this agreement was signed to prevent child recruitment and protect children’s rights, since they were highly affected by the conflicts and wars.
