Iraq – Green Zone reopens to public after a 15-year closure
Baghdad-Iraq 14/12/2018
Fifteen years after it was sealed off, the fortified Green Zone in the heart of Baghdad was opened to the public following directions by Iraqi Prime Minister, Adel Abdul Mahdi, however, it was opened partially and for specific hours only. This step aims to reduce traffic congestion in the capital Baghdad. Saad Almtalibi, Member of the Security Committee in Baghdad Provincial Council, said in a statement that reopening the Green Zone would be a trial opening over a specific period of time, and it is aimed at assessing the security situation, and it will not solve the traffic congestion issue in the capital as some people might think.
