Iraq – Erbil…The location where Prophet’s birthday celebrations began

Right in front of the historical archeological Castle of Erbil, Thousands of citizens celebrated the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), people of Erbil have been keen to revive this occasion for hundreds of years regularly since the era of Sultan Muzaffaruddin al-Kokbari (1153-1232 AD) who was the first to celebrate this occasion 800 years ago. The celebrants greeted each other while raising banners and religious slogans amidst religious chanting and prophetic praises made by religious chanting teams at the ceremony that was organized by the Directorate of Awqaf and Religious Affairs in Erbil. Desserts and food were offered for free to the celebrants by owners of stores that surrounds Castle of Arbil.
