Erbil city residents are used to buying wild starling birds and releasing them as a symbol of freedom and for gaining rewards or fulfillment of a vow and for their own comfort. This is a habit they do every April with the arrival of the spring.

A scene repeating every time of the year when Erbil skies is full of Wild starling birds with the black color and white wings after the locals buy them and set them free.

This is a habit the locals are used to at the beginning of spring every year when the sellers of those birds are ready to sell the birds hunted for people to buy and set free, the wild starling birds are known as “ZarZour” and is mainly black with white shiny wings that is called “Rashoula” in Kurdish language and this habit is for reward and goodwill as well as good luck.
